The United Socialist States of Blackbird is a gargantuan, cultured nation, remarkable for its keen interest in outer space. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 20.316 billion are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of the Environment, Education, and Social Welfare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Blackbird City. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The words 'private' and 'enterprise' must never appear in the same sentence, long arduous trials are held for the most trivial of offences, Blackbird has designated Blackbird City as its capital city, and government-run screening operations remove embryos with severe genetic disorders. Crime is totally unknown. Blackbird's national animal is the snowshoe rabbit, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Proletarian Credit.

Blackbird is ranked 2nd in The Proletariat Coalition and 21st in the world for Largest Public Sector, scoring 88 on the Bureaucratic Comprehensiveness Rating Scale Index.
