The United Socialist States of Blackbird is a gargantuan, cultured nation, renowned for its strong anti-business politics. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 19.663 billion are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of the Environment, Education, and Social Welfare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Blackbird City. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The words 'private' and 'enterprise' must never appear in the same sentence, long arduous trials are held for the most trivial of offences, Blackbird has designated Blackbird City as its capital city, and government-run screening operations remove embryos with severe genetic disorders. Crime is totally unknown. Blackbird's national animal is the snowshoe rabbit, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Proletarian Credit.

Blackbird is ranked 20th in The Proletariat Coalition and 28,260th in the world for Most Politically Free, scoring 69 on the Diebold Election Inking Scale.
