The Beautiful Socialist Paradise of Big Bay Island is a gargantuan, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by The First Citizen with an iron fist, and notable for its sprawling nuclear power plants. The compassionate, cynical population of 11.833 billion Big Bay Islanders are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of the Environment, Education, and Social Welfare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Island City. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

People take government jobs for the frequent flier miles, Big Bay Island's army is full of two-metre tall super-soldiers, the government has begun selling heroin and ecstasy to help fund its projects, and 'A is for Annulment' is a popular children's song. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Big Bay Island's national animal is the otter, which frolics freely in the nation's sparkling oceans, its national religion is a major religion, and its currency is the florin.

Big Bay Island is ranked 334th in Yggdrasil and 117,302nd in the world for Largest Manufacturing Sector, scoring -30 on the Gooback-Jerbs Productivity Index.
