The Principality of Baraki is a massive, devout nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 1.104 billion are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, moralistic morass -- juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Religion & Spirituality, and Defence. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 37%. A small but healthy private sector is dominated by the Gambling industry.

Organ donation is compulsory, child adoption by homosexual couples has been outlawed, elections have become procedural nightmares due to voters persistently rejecting candidates, and the government is frequently held to ransom by the increasing demands of bloodthirsty pirates. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Baraki's national animal is the centipede, and its currency is the piece of silver.
