The Zweite Republik of Austiana

Regional Influence: Instigator

Location: The Supreme Union

The Zweite Republik of Austiana is a massive, genial nation, ruled by President David Hill with a fair hand, and renowned for its keen interest in outer space. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 4.877 billion love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Castratene. The average income tax rate is 93%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Automobile Manufacturing and Uranium Mining.

Drunk drivers are sent to rehabilitation paid for by the government, high-income earners pay a 100% tax rate, abortions are routinely performed in Austiana's hospitals, and punitive tariffs protect local industry. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Austiana's national animal is the The Eagle, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Austianese Dollar.

Austiana is ranked 11th in The Supreme Union and 10,207th in the world for Highest Police Ratios, scoring 117 on the Orwell Orderliness Index.
