The Sultanate of Aturkia is a massive, devout nation, ruled by The Sultan with an iron fist, and renowned for its keen interest in outer space. Its compassionate, hard-working, cynical population of 4.1 billion are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, the Environment, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Barsu. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Welfare funding has recently gone through the roof, all news sources are under strict government control, newspapers cannot report anything about politicians without their explicit consent, and atheists are heavily taxed. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Aturkia's national animal is the black maned lion, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, its national religion is Sockism, and its currency is the Trape.

Aturkia is ranked 1st in The Nition of Pepele tat Cantt Speall and 648th in the world for Largest Public Sector, scoring 42 on the Bureaucratic Comprehensiveness Rating Scale Index.
