The Empire of Astalekon is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by Adrian Hawke with an even hand, and renowned for its anti-smoking policies. The hard-nosed population of 5.712 billion Astalekonians have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt morass — juggles the competing demands of Defense, Education, and Law & Order. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Kirkwall. The average income tax rate is 96.4%.

The Astalekonian economy, worth 429 trillion Eraks a year, is quite specialized and mostly made up of the Arms Manufacturing industry, with significant contributions from Tourism and Information Technology. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is 75,133 Eraks, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The lowest age at which one can marry has been recently lowered to 12, mantis shrimp studies is academia's fastest growing field, all citizens are solely referenced by their allocated identity number, and public loudspeakers constantly tell citizens they are "happy people". Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Astalekon's national animal is the Dog, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its national religion is Adrianism.

Astalekon is ranked 3rd in Wistlor and 101,592nd in the world for Largest Pizza Delivery Sector, scoring -2 on the Pepperoni Propulsion Productivity Index.
