The Empire of Astalekon is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Adrian Hawke with an even hand, and notable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 4.058 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Defence, although Law & Order and the Environment are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Kirkwall. The average income tax rate is 93%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

Schoolchildren have twice-weekly sex education classes, wind farms are erected on shuttered oil platforms, graffiti graces every city's streets, and local executives are seen on the corner with cardboard signs reading "will oppress the masses for food". Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Astalekon's national animal is the Dog, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Adrianism, and its currency is the Erak.

Astalekon is ranked 1st in Wistlor and 97,804th in the world for Largest Agricultural Sector, scoring -2 on the Mu-Bah-Daggs Productivity Index.
