The Philosophic Coalition of Asoryan is a huge, pleasant nation, ruled by the Enlightened Elder with an even hand, and renowned for its complete lack of public education. Its hard-nosed population of 927 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded individuals juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Rinaphas. The average income tax rate is 12%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Tourism industry.

Asoryan's first free elections in recent memory have been successfully concluded, the insurance industry is outlawed, the number of children one can have is restricted by law, and nervous homeowners have been blamed for rising death rates amongst carol singers and locksmiths. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a major problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Asoryan's national animal is the kamodo dragon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the hwatchi.
