The Sovereign Imperial Dominion of Aschenhyrst is a gargantuan, devout nation, ruled by King Mark II with an iron fist, and remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 11.882 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Aschton. The average income tax rate is 3%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

The military has had to quell a recent insurrection by uninsured revolutionaries, Animal Liberationists are regularly jailed, a recent law has banned homes from having any more than one wheel, and religious organizations are being forced to leave the country or pay income taxes like everybody else. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Aschenhyrst's national animal is the Fox, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Atheist, and its currency is the Aschenhyrst Dollar.

Aschenhyrst is ranked 20th in Tyrrhenia and 101,268th in the world for Largest Trout Fishing Sector, scoring -12 on the Nemo Depletion Efficiency Index.
