The Sovereign Imperial Dominion of Aschenhyrst is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, ruled by King Mark II with an iron fist, and remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 11.257 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Aschton. The average income tax rate is 1%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Automobile Manufacturing and Uranium Mining.

Vanity is considered the eighth cardinal virtue, terrified tympanists are finding themselves on the front lines armed only with kettledrums, violently opinionated speakers can be heard preaching their hateful views on every street corner, and criminals are thrown to the Foxs to repay their debt to society. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Aschenhyrst's national animal is the Fox, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Atheist, and its currency is the Aschenhyrst Dollar.

Aschenhyrst is ranked 25th in Tyrrhenia and 94,888th in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring -476 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
