The Imperium of Arbites is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by the Holy Curia with an iron fist, and remarkable for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 4.791 billion are ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Religion & Spirituality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Magus Civitus. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 84%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Uranium Mining industry.

Criminals are put to death while cuddling their favourite teddy bear, the police have reaffirmed their tough stance on drugs, the nation's diplomatic missives are now delivered via sniper rifle, and new religious sects are squashed immediately by the government. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Arbites's national animal is the Wolf, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Magism, and its currency is the Solidus.

Arbites is ranked 1st in The Cornellian Empire and 867th in the world for Most Conservative, scoring 93 on the Bush-Santorum Dawning Terror Index.
