The Sovereign Empire of Anbia is a colossal, economically powerful nation, ruled by Emperor Sábriel the First with an iron fist, and remarkable for its parental licensing program. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 5.418 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Kest. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 85%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining, Arms Manufacturing, and Information Technology industries.

Speaking out against the government is punishable by flogging, the alarmingly racist TV show 'Bigtopians Say the Darndest Things' is a hit, reports of arson have doubled since the introduction of a privatised fire protection service, and conductors wield diamond-encrusted batons to fit in with their freshly gilded surroundings. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Anbia's national animal is the Harpagornis moorei, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Sörsesuris, and its currency is the eselmené.
