The Empire of AnatarX is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Emperor Anatar with an iron fist, and notable for its anti-smoking policies. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 3.881 billion are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Healthcare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Anatarpolis. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 93%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Arms Manufacturing.

Every citizen must submit to DNA testing to be eliminated from police inquiries, the government seizes all major gold finds, vets have been drafted in to help "fix" those who fail the parental license exam, and hairdressers are among those who have disappeared overnight. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. AnatarX's national animal is the jacob, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Anatarthiest, and its currency is the credit.
