The Technocracy of Anarthia is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its hatred of cheese. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 1.566 billion are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Education, with areas such as Social Welfare and Defence receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Anarthia City. The average income tax rate is 59%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Citizens are permitted to carry concealed handguns, the latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, every product goes through extensive safety-testing by the government, and urban high-volume mailers now receive their mail via chauffeur-driven limousines. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is moderate. Anarthia's national animal is the fennec fox, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the credit.
