The Greater Republic of Amerique is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Protector Alexandre Jourdan with an even hand, and remarkable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 1.304 billion enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, liberal morass -- juggles the competing demands of Defence, Commerce, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Tremont. The average income tax rate is 38%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Book Publishing, and Automobile Manufacturing industries.

Nude art is becoming wildly popular, 'The Anti-Government Hour' is a popular programme on many of Amerique's radio stations, Red Cross demand for body bags are rising while sutures are decreasing, and the government has declined to declare any particular religion as its 'official' one. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Amerique's national animal is the bald eagle, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the fleurent.
