Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 6.203 billion live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal, pro-business individuals is mainly concerned with Commerce, although Healthcare and Education are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Alustrian City. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining, Soda Sales, and Automobile Manufacturing industries.

Employers may fire workers without giving any reason, the Alustrian Enquirer offers weekly cash prizes for 'most blasphemous song, story, or cartoon', the government extracts trade concessions from poor nations in exchange for humanitarian aid, and truth is often impossible to tell from fiction on the evening news. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Alustrian's national animal is the squirrel monkey, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the livre.
