The Federated Union of Almaniania is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by President Wilson Tyler Roosevelt with an even hand, and notable for its devotion to social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 6.837 billion enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and Social Welfare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Galt City. The average income tax rate is 66%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Gambling industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Book Publishing.

Young children are regularly seen wagering pocket money at blackjack tables, multiple polls have christened the newly-formed Filibuster Committee as "the least efficient government bureaucracy", space research funding has hit a recent high while several military bases are being closed down, and the Supreme Court vehemently protects civil rights and the right to privacy. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Almaniania's national animal is the Walrus, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the pana.

Almaniania is ranked 2,556th in The North Pacific and 53,378th in the world for Most Income Equality, scoring 126 on the Marx-Engels Emancipation Scale.
