The New Kingdom of Albrante is a massive, devout nation, ruled by Prince Johnothan IV with a fair hand, and remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 4.272 billion are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Defence, although Religion & Spirituality and Education are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Lockingsted. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 55%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Information Technology.

The nation's new foreign policy of 'very disproportionate retribution' has its neighbors on edge, the government seizes private property for the 'good of the people', a National Academy regulates grammar and usage, and procrastination is a national sport. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Albrante's national animal is the Plains Lion, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Albrantean Anglicanism, and its currency is the Albrantean Pound.

Albrante is ranked 17th in Judea and 90,425th in the world for Most Compassionate Citizens, scoring -85 on the Kitten Softness Rating.
