The Republic of Aequo animo is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by President Steve with a fair hand, and renowned for its anti-smoking policies. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 3.373 billion hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although Commerce and Defence are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Cerebrum. The average income tax rate is 41%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.

Airport security is provided by private companies, police officers are seen patrolling the streets armed with satellite-guided truncheons, the government extracts trade concessions from poor nations in exchange for humanitarian aid, and the government is pouring money into 'Operation Enduring Democracy'. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is moderate, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Aequo animo's national animal is the koala, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the tranquillo.
