There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal individuals is effectively ruled by the Department of Defence, with areas such as Social Equality and the Environment receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of NewAustin. Income tax is unheard of. Universities are populated by the spawn of the upper classes, frequent fliers are obliged to submit to invasive security procedures by government security, insomnia is slowly turning everyone insane, and major internet servers have acquired citizenship and are voting in national elections. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. NewTexas's national animal is the Armadillo, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Fajita Taco.
