The Empire of Layarteb is a gargantuan, safe nation, ruled by The Emperor with a fair hand, and notable for its parental licensing program. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 13.838 billion are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Education. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Automobile Manufacturing.

The armed forces are locked in an expensive and bloody war abroad to stamp out possible terrorists, protesters are up in arms over new nuclear power stations, torture is commonly used to extract information from suspected criminals, and shaken martini sales have soared in nations surrounding Layarteb. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Layarteb's national animal is the Falcon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Shingrot.
