It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is effectively ruled by the Department of Defence, with areas such as Social Equality and the Environment receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of City 45. The average income tax rate is 55%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Information Technology and Automobile Manufacturing.

Loans are available for students from poor families, books are considered luxuries only available to the incredibly wealthy, surveillance cameras are banned, and government police forces protect public schools from the threat of protest. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Demen's national animal is the Cheney, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the George Bush.
