The United Terran Alliance of The Fedral Union is a gargantuan, socially progressive nation, ruled by President Richard C Sagen with an even hand, and renowned for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 18.674 billion enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal, pro-business individuals devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as the Environment and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Union City. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Uranium Mining.

Organ donation rates are among the lowest in the region, the government has cut taxes in the face of widespread tax evasion, the government has ordered a moratorium on referenda, and the nation's leader appoints ministers directly. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. The Fedral Union's national animal is the Eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Terran Credit.

The Fedral Union is ranked 1st in Sagittarius Arm and 33,166th in the world for Most Influential, scoring 14 on the Soft Power Disbursement Rating.
