The Libertarian Republic of Sunset is a gargantuan, socially progressive nation, ruled by Erika Silaco with a fair hand, and renowned for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 19.741 billion live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of CORE VirtuaGov. Income tax is unheard of. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Gambling, Information Technology, and Book Publishing industries.

The number of students attending university has reached a record high, Sunset's educational system is the envy of many and regarded as a pinnacle of academic achievement, penurious citizens die from easily remedied ailments because they aren't 'taking enough initiative', and more and more students are taking up a career in medicine. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Sunset's national animal is the Martian Penguin, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Di-Coin.

Sunset is ranked 1st in The Planet Mars and 6,242nd in the world for Most Politically Free, scoring 80 on the Diebold Election Inking Scale.
