The Empire of Aglorea is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by Emperor John Press with an iron fist, and renowned for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 5.948 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Law & Order, although Education and Defence are secondary priorities. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Aglorea City. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 35%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

The government extracts trade concessions from poor nations in exchange for humanitarian aid, marketing departments of corporate giants compete to sponsor little league teams, construction of the Really Big Hadron Collider is underway, and criminals are thrown to the timber wolfs to repay their debt to society. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Aglorea's national animal is the timber wolf, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is a major religion, and its currency is the dollar.
