The Republic of Vetalia is a gargantuan, economically powerful nation, remarkable for its unlimited-speed roads. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 15.62 billion live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, pro-business individuals juggles the competing demands of Education, Law & Order, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Vetalia City. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 13%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry.

Marketing departments of corporate giants compete to sponsor little league teams, tourists need only sign on the dotted line to become citizens, conductors wield diamond-encrusted batons to fit in with their freshly gilded surroundings, and new safety regulations require all cars manufactured in Vetalia to be bombproof. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Vetalia's national animal is the Vetalian Gazelle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Ruble.
