The Holy Imperium of Urarail is a massive, safe nation, ruled by the Imperial Premier with an even hand, and remarkable for its suspicion of poets. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 3.612 billion are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Sudentor. The average income tax rate is 99%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

The colors pink and purple are banned from military unit insignia, scenic tours are unheard of after most environmental laws were abolished, the nation's infamous boot camp is more brutal than most battlefields, and mining is the nation's most dangerous occupation. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Urarail's national animal is the Northern Grand Dragon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is the Imperial Truth and Faith, and its currency is the Soldus.
