The Holy Imperium of Urarail is a massive, safe nation, ruled by Kenny La Flama Blanca Powers with an even hand, and notable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 4.225 billion are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Sudentor. The average income tax rate is 99%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

Scenic tours are unheard of after most environmental laws were abolished, the government is well known for declaring war on other countries for suspected slights, the nation's new foreign policy of 'very disproportionate retribution' has its neighbors on edge, and Urarail's educational system is the envy of many and regarded as a pinnacle of academic achievement. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Urarail's national animal is the Northern Grand Dragon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is the Imperial Truth and Faith, and its currency is the Soldus.
