The Ingsoc States of Rodainia is a colossal, devout nation, ruled by Big Brother with an iron fist, and remarkable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 7.746 billion are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Religion & Spirituality. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Airstrip One. The average income tax rate is 68%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

Students who refuse to pray are expelled from school, students cut up leftover pounds during Arts and Crafts, police officers have nearly cracked a major underage astronomy syndicate, and police conduct weekly raids looking for contraband cheeseburgers. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Rodainia's national animal is the bulldog, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is Neo Christianity, and its currency is the pound.
