The Federal Republic of Greal is a gargantuan, safe nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 11.078 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Religion & Spirituality and the Environment receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Sasha. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Automobile Manufacturing.

Children as young as twelve are conscripted into the armed forces, all major public areas are watched by police surveillance cameras, Greal has been recently classified as an international menace after 'liberating' several nearby territories, and the sound of wooden legs echo throughout Greal after the recent introduction of the Foot Tax. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Greal's national animal is the Blackish Blue Tiger, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Greal Dollar.

Greal is ranked 54th in Greater Dienstad and 100,400th in the world for Happiest Citizens, scoring -5 on the Relative Cheerfulness Rating.
