Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 10.852 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is effectively ruled by the Department of Defence, with areas such as the Environment and Social Equality receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Galva. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining, Automobile Manufacturing, and Arms Manufacturing industries.

Atheists refusing to attend church are heavily fined by the government, voters must frequently select what they view as the lesser of two evils on the ballot, high-income earners pay a 100% tax rate, and pristine wilderness has been trashed in the quest for cheaper oil. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Dephire's national animal is the Gorgons, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is Daegonism, and its currency is the Sarajevo.
