The Soviet Republic of Chernobyl-Pripyat is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by Nadezhda Volkova with an iron fist, and remarkable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 8.488 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Defence, although Healthcare and Law & Order are on the agenda. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Veblensk. The average income tax rate is 78%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry.

Prisons are crowded with possible terrorist suspects, believers must practice religion behind church doors lest the government smite them with a mighty fine, tourists need only sign on the dotted line to become citizens, and the controversial show 'Who Wants to be an Immigrant?' has become wildly popular. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Chernobyl-Pripyat's national animal is the Grizzly bear, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, its national religion is a personality cult, and its currency is the Ruble.

Chernobyl-Pripyat is ranked 12th in SLAVIJA and 87,739th in the world for Happiest Citizens, scoring 10 on the Relative Cheerfulness Rating.
