The People's Nation of Alfegos is a colossal, socially progressive nation, ruled by President Al'iro Da'rel with an iron fist, and renowned for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 9.873 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Commerce, and Law & Order. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of New Zevkhay. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 27%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Gambling, and Uranium Mining industries.

Traffic jams are a common sight due to construction work from a massive overhaul of the nation's freeways, protesters are up in arms over new nuclear power stations, politicians accepting drinks in bars are executed for taking bribes, and citizens live in superstitious fear of the mysterious glowing clouds that float over Alfegos. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a problem. Alfegos's national animal is the Fego'rai Bird, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Alfegan Aureus.

Alfegos is ranked 10th in Nova and 83,491st in the world for Best Weather, with -63 Metres of Sunlight Above Expected.
