The United States of Altimaea is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Leader with a fair hand, and renowned for its complete lack of public education. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 1.003 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The enormous government devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Social Equality and the Environment receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Argetnaria. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 20%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Retail industries.

Only the rich can afford the latest medical innovations, military geniuses responsible for brilliant campaigns are drummed out because they have close same-sex friends and an interest in interior design, nudity is frowned upon, and abortion is only legal in unusual circumstances. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a serious problem. Altimaea's national animal is the Altimaean Dragon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Altimark.
