Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 20.307 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Education. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Information Technology and Gambling.

Students are wary of colorfully decorated new teachers with names like Professor Pipsqueak, commercial jingles have been ham-handedly forced into world renowned symphonies, divorce lawyers are found begging on the streets, and euthanasia is legal. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling. The Cruel Pirates's national animal is the parrot, which is also the nation's favorite main course, its national religion is not existent the government is atheist, and its currency is the guilder.
