Two things:
First, that Quote of the Day fella CTE'ed in December. I liked seeing his quotes in the featured regions.
Second, I have a new idea for Commendations: there should be a random lottery generated, by which normal nations are give a commendation just for existing. Like a lottery winner. The featured region of the day is kinda like this, but having a commendation lottery tag for individual nations would be cool.

I like the lottery idea about commendations.
But what if, heaven forbid, I, or The Grendels, or Nak Nak, or Complete Bastards, or Ummagumma, or (my apologies’ for not inserting your nation), got a Commendation.
It would only embolden our nations to continue the path of…well, the path we are on…and that can’t be a good thing.

Okay I'm new to here. What is the difference between this region and the next?
Norvikeland! I'm shocked that you wouldn't think that the Grendels are a commendable nation! Sure, there was the incident with the EMP's. OK, there were several incidents with EMP's. OK, our military and intelligence services are in love with EMP's! There may have been a few coup de tats and other irregular interactions with explosives too, but those were mostly just diplomatic mission that just happened to have a lot of follow through. Then there was that radical group with biological weapons attempting to cleanse the world of the stain of humanity, but that really wasn't government sanctioned. But aside from that the charges of cannibalism are completely unfounded. Mostly unfounded. I mean we rarely eat each other anymore and barely ever consume humans these days. While I agree that the kitten sympathizer demographic will be hard to convince that the Grendels deserve a commendation, it should be noted that we find kittens both adorable and sumptuous. ;>)

They're really not all the same. Different regions have different themes and their cultures are built of different players. There is some overlapping of this because of multiple regions having the same interests and similar histories, or players participating in multiple regions. Different regions also support different activities. Wysteria doesn't support invaders for instance, which is why two nations were just banned from Wysteria (for transit to invader regions or wannabe invader regions).
Different regions have varying degrees of involvement in the WA, which is often determined as much by the sitting delegate and other core players as anything.
Different regions have differing degrees of offsite resources (forum, map, and chat room for instance, as we do).
Some regions have founders and some do not. Some are large and others are not. Some are active and some are dying. Some regions are old and some are new.
So are all regions the same? Not so much.
My bad. Make that three likely invaders. :-)
